$10,000 — that’s what you get for hanging tough, staying focused and believing in yourself, which is exactly what our man on the bass scene, Big Fred Contaoi of the Orange County Choppers fishing team did this week at the Wal-Mart FLW Series tournament at Lake Dardanelle in Arkansas.

The tourney started off a bit rough and Big Boy only weighed in 2 bass for a total of 5-pounds, 9 ounces…which included an 8-ounce penalty for a dead fish. At the end of the day, he was sitting in 165th place.

On Day 2, he picked up the pace a bit and weighed in 3 fish for 9 pounds, giving him a total of 14-9 for the event (145th place) with only one more day to go to make a check or climb to the top 10 to make the cut.

On Friday, his first spot didn’t pan out, so after an hour, he headed for spot #2 and it paid off. Over the course of the day, he sacked up an impressive 17 pounds, 12 ounces of largemouth (and he lost two 5 pounders), which vaulted him into 47th place…good for a check for nearly $10 GRAND!

Of course, in every tournament you can play the could-shoulda-woulda game and this one was no different. Fred only weighed in 10 fish for the three days — had he caught three more fish on day one and 2 more on day two, he probably would have made the top 10 (and the cut) and would have been fishing for the big $$.

As soon as the Dardanelle event was over, Fred hit the road, headed for Beaver Lake in Rogers, AR. That’s where the next FLW Wal-Mart Tour event is set to go May 17-20. Oh yea, speaking of Benjamin’s, first place is worth $200,000!
