Power Drifter!

Cowlitz River Power Drifter.jpg

Big Fred and I encountered this pimped out drifter on the Cowlitz River in Washington State…it was one of those weird deals when you know what your eyes are seeing but the brain has trouble making any sense of it. Imagine the scene: we’re fishing along and out of nowhere there’s this wooden driftboat, with no visible means of propulsion, streaking downstream at about 40 mph.

We later found out that the guy had done a little aftermarket work on his boat and added a Jet Ski motor to it. Ah yes, the best of both worlds! The “no shuttle required” concept isn’t new.

Alumaweld began making Power Drifters years ago and Rogue Marine also builds one called the Stealth. Those two boats, however, use outboard motors.

This bad boy is the first inboard jet drift boat I’ve ever seen.

Kinda cool, though I’d bet it’s one squirrelly mutha when he’s going fast considering there’s no keel!
