Come on — you know you’ve always been curious about what life is like on the pro bass tour, right? Well, Big Fred’s the star of a new film called Cast which follows him around during an FLW tour event.

It’s a funny thing…it took 4 years of permits, meetings and politics to get the Stanislaus River gravel restoration project off the ground and only 4 weeks to complete the actual work. We’re just about done renovating the 2-mile stretch of river we’ve been working on this month and it looks fantastic. With a gazillion tons of gravel and over 100 boulders in the 2- to 7-ton size range, this year’s fall run of Chinook salmon will have some stellar new habitat to call home.
Here’s a before photo of one of the spots we’ve rehabed:
And then the after picture…lots of good spawning gravel, some nice holding water and perfect flow!

Our latest Smoker of the Year Contest entry comes from Alaskan fishing guide Mike Stratman who put a lucky client onto this lovely doggie.
While the fish is certainly ugly enough (the congealed blood is a really nice touch!) to score high marks, it’s the size of the guy’s hand that is really impressive….
When have you ever seen anybody who could “tail” a salmon right behind the dorsal fin??
Oh, and by the way, time is running out…don’t forget to get those Smoker of the Year photos in…we’ve only got a few months left in the 2007 season. The deadline is Dec. 31.

Okay, Big Fred Contaoi fans…here’s your chance to catch our favorite pro basser on TV. This Thursday, Sept. 27, our man will guest star on American Chopper on TLC at 9-11p.m.
In this episode, which is a two parter entitled “EDS/Byron Nelson Championship Bike,” Big Fred travels to New York to meet the Orange County Choppers gang — Paul Teutul Sr. and his two sons Paul Jr. and Mikey. In Part I, he appears towards the end of the show.
In part II, Big Fred introduces Paul Jr. to the world of professional bass fishing as they compete in a FLW tournament on Fort Loudoun-Tellico Lakes in Tennessee.
Check it out!

Here’s what we found at the boat ramp on Friday morning at Lake Tahoe. Needless to say, we didn’t fish.
The video’s a little dark since it was 6 AM…(and shot on a cheesy point-and-shoot still camera) the clients really, really wanted to fish, so we loaded up and made a 3-hour drive straight from there down to the Delta. Before we left the mountains, however, I shot a couple more photos…

As you know, I’ve been working with KDH Environmental over the past several weeks to help restore gravel spawning beds for chinook salmon on the Stanislaus River. Things have been going exceptionally well and the 2-mile stretch of river we’ve been on has undergone an amazing transformation. We’re getting close to being finished…here’s a little sneak peak at some of the stuff we’ve been up to.
Here’s a picture of a side channel on the backside of an island before we started cleaning it up:

And here’s what it’s looking like now:
