Big Fred to kick off 2008 FLW Season at the Big “O”

It’s been a short off-season for our favorite FLW Touring bass pro, Big Fred Contaoi of the Orange County Choppers Fishing Team, and the inaugural tournament of the 2008 season is just around the corner.

To kick off his sophomore campaign, Big Boy will return to the scene of the crime — Florida’s Lake Okeechobee — where he began his professional career almost exactly one year ago. The event is slated for Jan. 23-26.

So, just exactly what can we expect from Freddy this season?

“My plans are to fish conservatively and focus on finesse gear,” he says. Rather than trying to bust out the big tackle and hit a home run each time (there is a time and place for that method), his main objective is to put 5 keeper bass in the box each morning and then upgrade from there.

At Okeechobee, he says he wants to play it safe initially.

“With the low water, I’ll be pulling out the shaky heads, crankbaits and Carolina rigs,” he says. “These three baits will help me to
put five away each day. If I feel that I can upgrade with my first choice I will stick with it. If not then I will pull out the Spooks
and swimbaits and swing for the fence. The good thing is we have three days to put it together. I hope to have three consistent days during the tournament and cash one of the better checks.”

On game day, you can watch Big Fred and the competition weigh-in live at www.flwoutdoors.com each day at 3PM Eastern time.
