AMERICAN RIVER STEELIES
Overall, it’s been a pretty solid couple of weeks here on the American. While the steelhead fishing has not been world class, coastal-style action, I’ve had my guys land 2 adults per day the last several trips…except on Saturday when my little streak came to an end with nothing landed but one little wild halfpounder.
I’ve been getting 90% of the fish on side-drifted eggs and Fish Pills though we’ve mixed a few plug and pink worm biters in as well. The flows are holding steady at 1,100 cfs and the river’s got a beautiful green hue to it.

The fish we’ve been getting have been ranging up to 10 pounds, though I’m starting to see a few more of those fresh spring-run fish in the 2- to 4-pound class as well.
Traffic has been extremely light on the river — maybe because the weather sucks and has been that way for about 10 days. Cold and windy out there the past couple trips!

Thanks!
Thanks to everybody who sent in their letters to the F&G Commission last week regarding the proposed fishing closure on the American. The Commission meets next week, so I’ll keep ya posted on what they decide.
