250,000 Springers for the Columbia?

April 4, 2008

While there’s plenty of gloom and doom regarding salmon populations on the West Coast, one bright spot appears to be the Columbia River, where over a quarter of a million spring Chinook salmon are expected return to Columbia this year.

While the Buoy 10 to I-5 section is now closed, you still have plenty of opportunity in the Hayden Island powerlines to Bonneville stretch, which will be open through April 30 and the Bonneville to McNary reach, which will be open through May 10.

Each section of river is governed by special regs, so be sure to check with Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife or the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife before you go.
