Mackinaw on flies??

Hey JD,

I’m heading up to Tahoe for the 4th of July Weekend and wanted to try catching some mackinaw on the fly — maybe?? Any advice?

Well, the only advice I can give you regarding catching macks on the fly is head to some place in the Northwest Territories where the fish cruise closer to the surface. Catching Tahoe’s lakers this time of year requires you to get at least 60…and more like 100+ feet down. I guess it could be done, but it’s probably not worth the effort. It’s kinda up there with dry fly fishing for sturgeon and fishing for marlin off the bank…
