Name this Fish!

Okay, so we’re currently searching for another sponsor of our Name That Fish Contest, so this time around it’s just for sport.

Got any idea who this guy is? Here are some hints:

You’d hate to meet him in a dark alley if you were say, a sculpin, vole or smolt….

I would hate to run into a cutthroat in an alley……, so I am going to guess that this is a sea-run cutthroat in spawning colors.

    It’s a yellow-lipped eastern Bohemian sand bass.

    Duh.

I keep waiting to collect on my winnings, JD, since I’ve totally smoked this contest like 31 times in a row.

Sabs, you are en fuego! Of course, I could throw you out on a technicality…the fish is actually a Yellow Lipped (orange phase) southwestern Bohemian Sand Bass, but you’re close enough. Don Pardo, go ahead and tell Mr. Sabalow what he’s won.

“Get ready for 7 days and 6 nights of fun and excitement on your all-inclusive vacation in wonderful Los Banos, CA at the Turdville Golf Club and RV Park. The package includes all meals at the local Burger King and tickets to Midgets on Ice and the Friday Night Cage Fights!”

Actually, Troy M wins this time around with the proper guess — a “banana lipped char from my recent Alaska mission,” submitted mere moments after the post appeared on http://www.fishwithjd.com.

    Nice work!

I think it is a Male Artic Char? From that picture its hard to see the leading edge of the front fins. If they are white. I think it is an Male spawning Artic Char. What a nice fish. What type of fly did it hit? MJP
