Hey DFG, where’s our $7 Million???

by JD on December 19, 2009

Million

Through the purchase of the Bay-Delta Enhancement Stamps on their fishing licenses since 2004, Californians have added nearly $9 million into the Department of Fish & Game’s coffers. But, according to the Bureau of State Audits, which reviewed the DFG’s use of the stamp’s proceeds, only $1.6 million of that had been spent on projects and administrative costs, leaving a surplus of $7 million.”

Seems like with fisheries crashing all around us, it might be nice to have those $7 million for fishery enhancement eh?

Read Ryan Sabaow’s story in the Redding Record Searchlight and be sure to click on the Bay-Delta Stamp Projects button in the left margin to see where exactly the money has been going (or not).

And , may I assume that you are a "native" born and bread "Idahoan" ?
It seems that often times the folks griping the loudest about "flatlanders" moving into the country are themselves once, twice who knows removed from somewhere else. ( at least in my observations)

Lets take a closer look at our fish + game commission here in California. the commission consists of 5 members, a president, a vice president and 3 members. Jim Kellogg is the president, his bio: 38m years with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada. He was first elected to full time office with the steamfitters local union 342 in 1976. He is a Union Steward!! Appointed to the Ca. Transportation Commission, the commission on Building for the 21st Century, the Ca. State Work Force Investment , is on the Board of Directors for the Ca. Residence Foundation, the Contra Costa College Foundation Bla BLA BLA BLA!!
The Vice President is Richard B. Rodgers he is a general partner in Pacific Ranch Foundation a farming and real estate company.and like the clown above him is on the board of directors for a bunch of BS committees and commissions. He has a BS in electrical engineering and a MBA in finance. AND he was an eagle scout and a Vietnam vet. AWE, that's so nice.
The 3 members consist of a park ranger of sorts, a real estate agent and a career municipal administrator. Really , I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried, it's like a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland and you keep wondering how you fell into the WRONG bunny hole!!!
But you know, what's worse, is that I don't think anyone cares. (except for me)

The California fish + game dept. is a bad joke for all of the sportsmen here. Lets do a comparison with the Oregon dept of fish + wildlife. Our fish + game commission's members have no background whatsoever in the field. The acting director, John McCammen has only been with the commission since 2006. His background ? "working with small local governments and working in the halls of the nation's capital" whatever the hell that means. Oregon's director of their F + W dept. has been with the dept since 1993, has a masters degree in wildlife biology and an environmental law degree is a genuine career professional in the field. ODFW has a web site which has a feature called your license dollars at work, and you should see all of the programs and projects they conduct. Ca's f+g dept. is an outrage
