It’s been over three years since Rudy, the World’s Greatest Fish Dog’s days on planet earth came to a very sudden and tragic end. Long enough, in fact, that I don’t even think of him all that much anymore.
But then, last night, I was cleaning some files off the computer and ran across this pic of him “at work” on the Trinity. I’ve gotta say, it got me all choked up. Guess I still miss the furry ol’ boy more than I even realized.
Hmmm, maybe it’s puppy time…

something I think so few can understand, My fishing buddys name was Ben, one of my sons picked him out of the litter and named him as soon as he picked him up, my son was 5 years old at the time. I can’t remember a day of fishing without him,,,,, Funnest dog I ever knew, I remember once steelhead fishing about 15 mils inland from the Oregon coast Saeside Or , , I would be standing knee deep in water fishing and Ben,( not just this time but always ) would jump in the river and swim out to me ,wrap his front paws around my leg and just tread water . This would go on until he got cold , then he would swim back to shore, warm up and come back,,, tread more water. Some people from Wisconsin were driving down HWY 26 and saw me and my dog that one of my daughters loving called stupid in the river. They told me that they drove until they could turn around and come back to take photos of me and my dog, mostly called stupid,in the river, they told me that it was one of the highlights of the trip, he has been gone now for about 3 years, he was 15 and sometimes still I will look over my shoulder on the river and wonder , hey where did stupid go ? So if you folks from Wisconsin see my little note I would give anything for one of the photos that you took that day
Had one named Niner,Best fishing buddy I ever had,He was 18 1/2…
Lost our pit mix to cancer just a year ago and when I see some old oics I am so happy I got to know and love that dog. Crying those tears of joy and remembrance are the healing waters.
My dog wasnt a fish dog but I understand. 13 years we had Kimo an American Eskimo. White fluffy fur ball he was but a good dog none the less. Faithful as a good companion should be. Now we have 2 rug rats that mutiplied to 4 rug rats. So make your choice carefully.
