Here’s one that will make you think: Now, why didn’t I think of that? I am referring to, of course, dried cod skin lamps. Nothing sets the mood like a dried, hollowed out fish with a light in it…duh! A must have for all you bachelors out there trying to impress the ladies!! And Martha Stewart…your game is weak if you don’t own one!
Okay, I kid but the artists, Fanney Antonsdóttir and Dögg Guðmundsdóttir of Iceland put a lot of work into these babies. The lights are made by skinning the fish by hand and then cleaning the skin. The skin is then shaped in the original form and dried before putting the light in. All the work is done by hand and the process from fresh fish to the finished light takes up to 3 weeks. And the meat gets eaten too.
