You know me…I’m always a sucker for a good kid fishing pic! So, it was impossible for me not to post this photo of super cute Alexandra Martin, 7, of Brookings, OR, and her first-ever king salmon, a 15-pounder. Alexandra caught the fish Sept. 18 on the Coquille River on the Oregon Coast while fishing with her father, guide Andy Martin of Wild Rivers Fishing.
And that, my friends, is how you get yourself a fishing buddy for life! Good job Alex & Andy!
Right when it suddenly gets a little colder just before dawn, when there’s just the hint of dawn over the over the distant hills and the water is a mirror…that’s when I feel most alive.
I took this photo a couple weeks back and just thought it was kinda interesting. As Big Fred was attempting to land this colored-up buck, I swooped in for a ground-level shot and, other than the water that got splashed on the lens, I like the different perspective it presents…more fun than the classic grip-n-grin anyway!
Okay, so in the interest of full disclosure here, the headline is a bit melodramatic: Since the fish was released seconds later, it probably wasn’t his final jump, but it just kinda sounded cool…
It just doesn’t get any better than the feeling you get when set up on a bite, feel the resistance and then get to shout out that most blissful of declarations: FISH ON!!
