Check out this clear ice! It’s like fishing out of a glass bottom boat!!
I guess they don’t sit on buckets anymore…and didn’t they used to call these things ice fishing “shanties?”
That’s exactly what Tim Wilda did recently on the Kewaunee River in Wisconsin, where he nailed this sweet 32-inch buck under the ice…on a 32-inch rod no less!!
The fish ate a 1/32-ounce jig with a spawn sac in 2 feet of water and took off running. Tim said the battle lasted 10 minutes and he could see the steelie flashing chrome under the ice the whole time.
Just because it’s the dead of winter in the Alaskan interior, that doesn’t mean you can’t get bit! John Huntchens caught this 33-inch laker through the ice at Harding Lake on Feb. 8.
You’ll get a chance to vote for John’s big Mack in our February HAWG of the Month Contest at the end of the month. Monthly winners of course get a sweet tackle pack from Yakima Bait and will advance to the HAWG Bowl Playoffs at the end of the year.
I am digging this tune! Glen Ferguson, Curtis Hachey and Brian Kenny play “Can’t catch a Fish” on the ice during an ice fishing adventure in Bathurst, New Brunswick.
