They tell me we’re nearly two-thirds of the way through September already yet my internal calendar is reading “June.”
I guess that’s what happens when there’s no salmon fishing in the Sacramento Valley for the first time in my life. It’s a really starnge sensation to not be out chasing kings every day…depressing, really. So, just for old times sake, I thought I’d throw up a photo of ol pal, Rob Bonner, with a chrome king he caught with me in the Sac a few seasons back. Although I’m not sure if that’s making me feel better or worse…
Anybody else feeling as displaced and out-of-sorts as I am??

I feel for ya, JD.
It’s gotta be rough, especially in this economic climate. I might be down for a striper trip later this year to help bolster yer income.
Stay tuned.
I’m married now so the wife has control of the funds.
I’m sure you know how that goes…
Anyway, I’ll stay in touch.
I had a blast last trip and would love to do so again.

This time of year, I would be winding down on the Feather River with clients, then gearing up, to go up to Woodson Bridge for the month. Then off to Old Sacramento River for October and November, chasing those fish. Now we are fishing for trout in the Sierras and Striper’s in the Delta? Not fishing for Salmon in our rivers, has put’s a bigger impact on the other fisheries, Trout and Halibut and Striper and Sturgeon. Hopefully the runs will come back and the fishery will become strong again! It’s very sad not to be fishing for the fish, we love to catch. Good thing this summer, some of us had an opportunity to catch some of those endangered species, the (King salmon) in Alaska. Even the runs in Alaska were running late and not as big? I talked with many fishermen, which did not even catch any Salmon, after going up to Alaska. So the problem is not only in California and Oregon waters. We all need to wake up. We need to find out why the fish are not coming back in any big numbers? Is it the food the salmon eat? Is man harvesting too many Sardines and Anchovies etc? Is it over fishing the Salmon in the oceans from Commercial fishermen and big drag net boats? Is it the climate or the warmer waters pushing the bait fish farther out in international waters and the international boats are cleaning up the fish with the floating fish factories? If we can solve the ocean problems, then we can work on cleaning up our rivers and making the salmon habitat better that it was? MJP
