Lake Michigan kicks out Potential World Record Brown Trout!!

February 22, 2012 By JD 9 Comments

Eric Haataja and Browntosaurus

Talk about super-sized! Check out his potential new All-Tackle Length Record for brown trout! This massive kpyed-up buck measured 38.2 inches (the current length record is 25.2 inches)and was caught in Milwaukee Harbour on Lake Michigan by Eric Haataja, who was casting a skirted jig.

The fight lasted 10 minutes…after which, Haataja snapped a couple quick pix and then released big daddy to go about his business. If approved, this will be the new length world record for browns. The length record is a fairly new catch and release category so that anglers can get recognized for trophy catches without killing the fish. Read more at IGFA.org

Gene, You need to set the pipe down and back away! Awesome Trout by any standards, glad to see it set free. By the way Gene…I have fished Lake Tahoe about ten thousand times and never saw anything like that Brown. I know they have some huge Macks in the lake, but nobody has been nocking them dead for years. I’m going to try for a 50+ pound Striper this year so I’ll be headed to the east coast around Chesapeake Bay for that task. Anyone got any tips? Butch

Don’t listen to that guy Gene, he lies online all the time!! Do not hire him a guide!!! That is a beast of a brown!!! Though I’d rather catch a brown in the mountains than in a city.

Was the old record seriously only 25.2 inches or is that a typo? If it was, I had broken the record on many occasions without even knowing it.
