Alaska Fishing Paradise: The Amazing Togiak River

July 19, 2019 By JD 2 Comments

If you have never fished Alaska, it should certainly be on your bucket list!

The state is rich in salmon fishing hot spots, and the incredible Togiak River has to considered as one of the best of the best. Here’s a little action from my most recent summer of guiding up there…

    Hi jd
Read your informative articles for years, thanks

Wanting to fish Togiak this year but only thing open is august 9
I’m concerned I will be to late for kings ,chums. and to early for silvers. Just on the shoulder season
I know runs can be early or late but seems like a crap shoot? Interested in your opinion

I would like to go up river and fish rainbows a day or two. It seems that they don’t go up often so don’t know if they will be very interested in going up either because of longer run, no one else interested or not having a guide that knows upper river. Are these concerns valid about not a lot of interest in going up?
In 24 I am thinking about the second week of July for kings, chums and sockeye. Would that be your top choice?

For silvers I’m thinking third or 4th week of August in24
Would that be a top pick.

If river is not high is it a problem to get dropped off on gravel bar if your fishing partner wants to boat fish or windy and difficult for two to fly fish from boat

You mentioned there were guides in village. If I can’t get in lodge how would I arrange fishing with a guide there. Any recommendations?

Sorry to hit you with all these questions. Trying to get unbiased opinion from someone who has been there and done that

Ps. Live a little north in yreka.
