Swimbait Colors for Stripers

January 13, 2009 By JD 7 Comments

So, what’s the best color for a swimbait for striper fishing? Well, here’s our no-frills, super-easy to follow, at a glance guide!

Keep ‘er simple, that’s what I say! In general, go more subtle in clear water/sunny conditions and brighten everything up on dark days or in murky water.

Swimbaits and bucktails are my go to for stripers. Great tips for swimbaits. I like to follow the same color rules with my bucktail trailers. I like to use a chartreuse or bright green Jig Strip trailer in murky water and usually a lighter color in cleaner water.

Hey JD, I found your tips regarding Shad fishing very useful. Thanks a lot! Now that the Shad bite is slowing way down, I plan to see if I can find some stripers. How do you rig and fish these swimbaits? If you did a new article about how to find and fish for stripers (especially from the bank) that would be awesome!
