Lake Almanor Map with Hot Spots??

October 26, 2009 By JD 3 Comments

J.D.

I enjoy fishing Lake Almanor and reading the fish reports in W.O.N. Usually the articles say where they are catching fish. Example: the A-frame, El Dorado Inn, rec 1, rec 2, the springs. None of the maps I have of the lake show where these spots are. Do you know of a map that I can buy that will show where these spots are located on the lake? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Larry P.

I’m not sure of a specific map, but the Lake Almanor Fishing Association can hook you up with all that info.

You should be able to buy a map at any fishing store in Chester, which is at Lake Almanor. The Sports Nut or the Ayoobes hardware store are your best bet. Fishing the Rec 1 and 2 areas are great. Been fishing there for 30+ years. You can catch record Browns and 2-4lb salmon and some very large rainbows. Going out of Rec 1 head toward Hamilton branch (East) and there will be two Points. the A frame is a green roof A Frame house but has been hidden by the trees now. You will be best suited trolling in 20 – 40' along the shore east from Rec 1 and turn around by hte second point. Down riggers or 6-7 colors with a firetiger speedy shinner. Your fish finder will tell you where to go. the fish are stacked up. I went in early Oct and limited out iwth 3-4lb bows and a few 2lb salmon. Hooked into a brown i couldnt get into the boat. Fly fishing the bait boils worked well for bows as well.
