From the Stupid Files…

September 21, 2008 By JD Leave a Comment

Sometimes when I think back, my good pal VnMan and I are lucky to be alive…all that stupid stuff we used to do before we had jobs, wives, kids, spare tires, etc.

Lookie there…here come those two aforementioned brain-surgeons now, running a jon boat through a pipe in a dam. Okay, so it seemed like a good idea at the time…??

For more evidence of our youthful acts that defied logic, be sure to check out the December issue of Salmon Trout Steelheader Magazine

So, you’re saying it’s fall??

Sacramento King .JPG
They tell me we’re nearly two-thirds of the way through September already yet my internal calendar is reading “June.”

I guess that’s what happens when there’s no salmon fishing in the Sacramento Valley for the first time in my life. It’s a really starnge sensation to not be out chasing kings every day…depressing, really. So, just for old times sake, I thought I’d throw up a photo of ol pal, Rob Bonner, with a chrome king he caught with me in the Sac a few seasons back. Although I’m not sure if that’s making me feel better or worse…

Monster Rainbow Trout!

Huge Rainbow Trout.jpg
C.W.’s 23-pound Northern California slab shows why you don’t always have to go to Alaska for huge rainbows.

Sorry kids, we’ll be keeping the lid on the fish’s former whereabouts…

CA Angler nails a 70-pound inland striped bass!

August 15, 2008 By JD 6 Comments

70-pound striper.jpg
Aug. 5, 2008 is a date that Frank Ualat of Gilroy, CA won’t soon forget.

Down to his last bait at Central California’s O’Neill Forebay, Ualat hooked this mammoth 70-pound, 6-ounce striped bass.

The enormous fish measured 52.5 inches long and had a 36-inch girth and was caught on a pileworm fished on an 11-foot G. Loomis Surf Series spinning rod and a Team Daiwa Advantage 4000 reel spooled up with 50-pound braid.

But that’s not the whole story…
