So, I’ve been working on a couple articles today for Salmon Trout Steelheader and Fish Alaska magazines, going through my photo catalog and…BAM…I ran across this one of me and Matt “Go Home” Kinne in British Columbia a few years ago and I’ve gotta say my productivity for the day is now pretty much shot.
I mean, how’s a guy supposed to work when you’ve got B.C. steelies on the brain? Short answer: You can’t. Think I’m gonna walk down to the river now…
Sometimes when I think back, my good pal VnMan and I are lucky to be alive…all that stupid stuff we used to do before we had jobs, wives, kids, spare tires, etc.
Lookie there…here come those two aforementioned brain-surgeons now, running a jon boat through a pipe in a dam. Okay, so it seemed like a good idea at the time…??

Are downer steelhead really…well…”downers?” Lots of folks think so because when you catch them they’re usually skinny, colored up and not the greatest of fighters. Some people even get bummed out when they hook a downer (also known as runbacks, kelts or spent fish) but there’s actually a lot to love about ’em.
