For many years, I wrote an April Fools article in Salmon Trout Steelheader Magazine that was a big hit with the readers. Some of my favorites had to do with fictional places where huge and sometimes weird fish species thrived. The real fun was using several of my buddies as the main characters without them knowing. It was always fun fielding calls from readers who bought in…and my friends who starred in the articles. These are some of my favorites…
The above pic is from one of my more popular April Fool’s gags…one about a famous B-Movie action star, Jack Damon, who gave up the film industry to guide steelhead trips on the Los Angeles River. You can read the article and see the photos here: LA River Steelheading
The blue meanie fish above was from a story about a fictional place called Baltavia, where 100-pound salmon, 50-pound steelhead and these kooky critters lived. See the pix and read the story here: Baltavia: Best Fishing in the World
El Vikingo was the main man to develop the amazing Vampire Steelhead fishery in South America, where blood thirsty fanged steelhead would devour properly presented poppers.
Closer to home, who could forget the one about freshwater halibut in Lake Englebright, CA?
There were so many more, but that’s enough for now. Did I get any of you with these over the years?? :)
