The 5 Biggest Bass Ever Caught

May 14, 2013 By JD 15 Comments

It’s the most highly-coveted record in fishing… the world record largemouth bass. Break the world’s mark and fame and fortune will be yours. Here’s a list of the top 5 biggest largemouth bass every caught…

1: The Beast from the East (22.311 Pounds)

World Record Largemouth
Caught in 2009 by Manabu Kurita in Japan’s Lake Biwa, this beast, by weight, is heavier than the long standing record set by George Perry in 1932. However, since Kurita’s fish only weighed just slightly over an ounce more than Perry’s, by rule the IGFA declared it a two-way tie for the heaviest bass ever landed.

B.A.S.S. bans Alabama Rig in Elite Series Events & Classic

January 18, 2012 By JD 6 Comments

Alabama Rig: Too deadly, says B.A.S.S.

The castable umbrella known as the “Alabama Rig,” which turned the bass fishing world on its ear just a few months back, has officially been banned in B.A.S.S. Elite Series tournaments and the Bassmaster Classic.

Elite Series Rules Committee members believe the rig eliminates some of the skill that should be required in tournament competition at the highest level. “It doesn’t matter how you work it,” said one of the anglers. “The fish can’t help themselves.”

Our resident bassin’ expert and professional angler, Big Fred Contaoi, is excited about the ruling.

“The rig can be hard on the fish…you may get one of the lures in the mouth but others can snag fish in vital areas like the belly,” he says. “Outlawing it levels the playing field again I wish other tournament series would follow suit.”

It’s the one that, if faced with the decision of only having one lure in your box for the rest of time, you’d pick…the bait that, if you only had one lure in your box and you were starving, you’d use.

I know what my choice would be…
