That’s a Wrap!

November 19, 2012 By JD 6 Comments

I have been chasing Chinook salmon in the Central Valley rivers since early June…catching them for scientific research in some cases, catching them for fun, food & profit in others.

Either way, it’s been a long season and I’m finally calling it quits for 2012. I’m happy to report that the Chinook numbers in the rivers seemed solid, though the final counts have yet to come in.

Hopefully, we will get plenty of rain this winter and that ocean conditions will remain healthy. If so, we should see more good fishing in the years to come!

I too thought Chinook season was over. I went to River Bend on the American this weekend to see if I could take any steelhead. While I did hook and land one juvenile, I also hooked three and landed (but returned) one Chinook. The river was just hopping with ‘dirty old men’. It was an absolutely beautiful day with moderate temperatures and hardly a cloud in the sky. I also saw a few good full-body leaps and quite a bit of splashing in the shallow water.

    Now the season is over!

Thanks JD! We’ll be continuing the search for Mr Hogito and see if we can withstand 50lb braid smoking thumbs to get into those coastal kings later this month! CB
