Calamari anyone??

February 25, 2007 By JD Leave a Comment

Mono Squid!

Bust out the beer batter! Auckland University of Technology professor, Steve O’Shea says that this Colossal Squid (43 feet long and an estimated 990 pounds) would yield calamari rings the size of tractor tires. The beast was caught recently in Antarctica’s Ross Sea.

The epic tail…er…tale of Steelie Dan

February 16, 2007 By JD 4 Comments

Aiming for the bright light above, the little guy — we’ll call him “Dan” — struggled through the pile of gravel where his mother had buried him several weeks before.

As he reached the top of the stones, Dan poked his tiny little head into the light, and without warning, he was rudely greeted by a swift current.

Damn, who’s that handsome cover model??

January 31, 2007 By JD Leave a Comment

F&H News Cover

Proving without a doubt that the outdoor media has extremely low standards when it comes to models, here’s my second cover shot in a month…

Actually, I was kinda disappointed. You see, I’ve been hoping for People Magazine’s Sexiest Man of the Year honors, but they’ve yet to call. I know, because I’ve been sitting by the phone 24-7 waiting…and waiting…and waiting. Hmmm, maybe they don’t have the right number.

Speaking of magazines, the cover of Forbes wouldn’t suck, either, but that’s probably not in the cards anytime soon. Of course, in my days of being a wanna-be pop star, I figured the Rolling Stone cover was a forgone conclusion but, alas, that didn’t pan out. Oh well, I’ve still got my old music video that I’ll post here at some point.

Anyway, thanks to the Fishing & Hunting News gang for running my ugly mug on the upcoming issue of California edition. Check it out for the latest scoop on steelheading and all things hunting and fishing in the Golden State. www.fishingandhuntingnews.com

A day in the life of Biscut Eater

January 30, 2007 By JD Leave a Comment

Biscut Eater & Friends

Biscuit Eater could sense something big was about to happen.??There was a nervous electricity in the water and all the others of his kind seemed to be jittery. A low,
metallic sound was emanating from the far end of the concrete lane he’d called home for his entire life. The sound was soft at first but it was getting louder by the second. Something unfamiliar…

Godzilla-sized Brookie, eh!

January 28, 2007 By JD Leave a Comment

I know, I know…it looks like I got a little creative with Photoshop on this one, but this picture is legit. What you’re looking at is the largest brook trout anybody has laid hands in at least 90 years and, perhaps ever.

The massive brookie was taken in the fall by Tim Matheson of Serridon, Manitoba in Manitoba’s Lake Barbe. The really cool part of the story is the fish didn’t end up on the barbe…
